Wilton Commons is a mixed-income development, serving people over the age of 62 with income up to 60 percent of the area median. Set on 4.8 acres of town-owned land in central Wilton, residents have easy access to transit. The first phase opened in 2012 with 51 apartments and a central dining room, a library, crafts and recreation rooms, meditation space, beauty shop, and small store. Twenty-three units of congregate affordable housing will be added in phase two in 2014-2015, allowing residents to age in place with additional support services.
A local nonprofit organization, Wilton Commons, Inc. (WCI), was created to bring the project to fruition. Housing Connections staff provided knowledge about the housing development process and helped WCI chose a nonprofit developer.
