The Sharon Housing Authority (SHA) is a state-chartered housing authority in this small, affluent northwestern Connecticut town. The SHA already owned a 20-unit family rental development at Sharon Ridge. After conducting a needs assessment, they decided to expand their site to increase the number of affordable family housing units available.
Housing Connections helped this small housing authority identify, interview, and hire a consultant to assist with planning the expansion of their affordable rental housing stock by an additional 12 units among three buildings. The 12 new units include eight one-bedroom and four two-bedroom apartments. Two units are handicapped accessible, five units are handicapped adaptable, and the development has an energy saving geothermal heating and cooling system. The project received federal, state and local funding.
