Ferry Crossing, a 16-unit mixed-income development with one, two and three-bedroom town houses and garden apartments,in Old Saybrook serves as a model for other towns that wish to bring well planned, attractive and affordable housing to their communities.
The development of Ferry Crossing involved a unique, cooperative working relationship between the project sponsors and the Town of Old Saybrook. The town owns the site and has executed a 75-year ground lease for the project with the HOPE Partnership, a local non-profit organization dedicated to developing affordable workforce housing opportunities in Southern Middlesex County.
Housing Connections worked with HOPE Partnership to organize the nonprofit, hire staff, and engage a development consultant. Housing Connections also organized a tour of affordable housing projects in the area and advised HOPE in how to obtain support from the Old Saybrook community.
